    Virtual Console, 24 Mar 2010

Ok, so i guess instead of rating the wii points card that is for sale, I will rate the Virtual Console and WiiWare services where you can spend your wii points. I just started using this feature, and it works quite well. Basically what you do is connect your wii to the internet (not hard if you have a connection) and then go to the wii shop channel. From there, you have a choice of buying wii points, or using your wii points on Virtual Console games or WiiWare games. The wii points card is useful if 1) You don't have a credit card and you would still like to buy wii points or 2) it is useful for giving to a friend as a gift card. When I first used the feature, I decided to do the Virtual Console games first (I still haven't done the WiiWare games yet). I bought Super Mario Bros. and it took about thirty seconds to load. The bigger games will take a much longer time to load. It finished loading, and it popped up on one of my wiis channels. I was ecstatic that it worked so well and so quickly. Then came the main problem that I ran across with this service. It didn't work! I could technically still play the game (you could hear the sounds and I could still move) but there was nothing on the screen! It was just black! So, I went on Nintendo's website to troubleshoot. Turns out the Virtual console games hate new tvs. However, I was able to feed the AV cables through the VCR instead of directly to the TV and it worked! So now every time I want to play a Virtual Console game, all I have to do is change the feed from the TV to the VCR. I change it back because if it is connected to the TV, I get a better picture on my other games than if I left it connectedd to the VCR.

Bottom Line- Take advantage of this service on your wii, but only if you have an old TV or VCR. Otherwise, you will be sorely dissapointed.

Fun fact- 1000 wii points is equal to 1000 yen, which is Japan's form of currency.

    RIP OFF!!, 30 Jan 2010

For $20.00 you can get 200 points right on your Wii... What a price gouge, I would NEVER buy this item from Amazon at that price!! There normally priced at $19.99, even Wal-Mart has a better deal than amazon!

Your not stealing my pocketbook sorry!

    Amazon = $30 upcharge, 28 Dec 2009

You can buy this directly through the shop channel on your Wii for $20. Why in the world would you pay an extra $34 to get it from Amazon???

    What a rip off!, 27 Dec 2009

This $20 valued Wii points card is selling for over $50! Unbelievable. Just get it direction from the Wii Store and pay $20.

This review was written on Dec 27 2009 at 3:02am, when the price was over $50 for this $20 card. If the price is $20 or less, go ahead and get it with free shipping, but if not, look elsewhere.

To Wii Points or not to Wii Points? That is the question., 8 Nov 2009

First, let me say I have purchased Wii points in the past. It was a mistake, but I didn't know that you can just buy them on the console directly. Buying Wii Points for yourself if you are an adult is a waist of time and money. I am 31, I own a Wii, and I love playing a lot of older games. The idea behind Wii Points is as a gift for someone else, or if your a child/teenager that doesn't have a credit/debt card you can buy them with cash at the store. But for all you adults out there (and I know that you're looking), you can just buy points on the console directly with a credit/debt card and cut out your wait time completely.

P.S. on a personal note, if any of my friends or family ends up reading this, yes, this is a great gift for me! Wii 2000 Points Card

Don't buy it from here, 24 Oct 2009

It makes no sense to buy this piece of plastic inscribed with a code, accreting an unnecessary shipping charge. Buy it in a store, or buy Wii Shop points through your Wii itself. Why isn't the code itself downloadable, like digital music? Why pay a shipping charge for a piece of plastic on which this code is printed? You could spend that $5 on 500 more Wii Shop points if you did it online! It makes absolutely no sense to buy this through Amazon.com!

Good idea for gift but, 6 Oct 2009

The wii pionts card is a good idea for a gift but if this is for you just order games through your wii. It saves lots of time and there is no point in having to wait for the card when you could get your games right away. Lots and lots of games that you can order, some good and some stupid.

The math of these cards on Amazon just doesn't make sense. Sold directly by nintendo, 2000 wii points is the equal to 20 dollars. While you must get on your Wii or DSI to purchase them that way, even these cards cannot be redeemed unless you can already access the wii/ds shop. In a physical store you have the advantage of cash-only purchase, but not on amazon! The fact that amazon charges an extra $2.00 to $4.00 dollars depending on the day is absurd.

Even if you intend the points as a gift for someone else, if possible I recommend asking them to select a game ahead of time and using the Wii-Shop's built in "gift" feature to send it to them.

A great inexpensive way to download old games., 14 Jul 2009

Like many other reviewers have stated 2000 Wii points equals 20 dollars. The places that charge more than 20 dollars for a Wii points card are ripping you off.

Still I have come to own more than 15 old games on my Wii thanks to the numerous Wii cards I've bought. My favorite thing about downloading these games on the Wii is that the Wii version's audio quality is better than the original cartridges for the different systems. The original NES was mono( the Wii versions of these NES games can be played in full stereo), the Sega Genesis's audio cables could not be played on a stereo(the Wii's Genesis's games can and even though the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 systems audio cables could be hooked up to a stereo receiver the Wii versions of the same games sound twice as good.) The picture quality on all these games are better on the Wii as well. The graphics on the N64 games you can download also look better than the originals.

The purpose of the Wii points cards are downloading old games. A credit or debit card can be used as well but the Wii points card is the most cautious way to buy them. Downloading is easy and fun but, also addictive. I buy the Wii cards simply because I want to watch my money.

The number of NES,Turbo Grafx 16, Sega Gensis, Sega Mater System, Super NES, Neo Geo and Nintendo 64 games has been rising steadily and to own these games on one system is very convenient. You don't have to lose space in your tv room or worry about connecting and reconnecting a bunch of old systems to be able to play most of these games but the downfall is that there are still some great games for these systems that are not available for downloading yet.

Here is a list of my top 10 favorite games available for download:

    1. The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time(N64)

    2. Super Mario Bros. 3(NES)

    3. The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past(Super NES)

    4.Sonic The Hedgehog 2(Sega Genesis)

    5. Street Fighter 2 Turbo(Super NES)

    6. Toe Jam And Earl in Panic On Funkotron(Sega Genesis)

    7. F Zero X( Nintendo 64)

    8. Super Metroid( Super NES)

    9. Bonks Revenge(Turbo Grafx 16)

    10. Super Mario World( Super NES)

In closing I will state the pros and cons of the Wii Shopping Channel.

pros: 1.video and audio quality has been improved for the downloadable games compared to the cartridges

    2. downloading these games is fun and takes a short time

    3. You can play most of your favorite classics on one system(Wii) 4. The deals are usually better for downloading(as opposed to buying the old cartridges for the most part).

cons: 1. There are some great games from these old systems that are not available for download yet.Examples are Super Mario All Stars(Super NES),Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island(Super NES) and Sonic & Knuckles lock on cartridge (for Sega Genesis) to name a few.

    2. The rumble feature of the N64 games is absent on the Wii(although if you use the Nintendo Wavebird you can play them wireless which makes up for there being no rumble a little bit)

    3. You have to have a classic controller and a Gamecube controller for the games that require extra buttons.

$16.12 Shipping charge if you order through Amazon, 3 Jun 2009

Be careful. If you order this card through the link on the first page they charge you $16.12 shipping and handling to ship it from Target. If you go to the 'other buying options' button, it says $2.69 shipping from Target. I called customer service about the difference and was told that if you buy it through amazon then target, that is the shipping. Customer service did refund the extra shipping (Amazon has great customer service in my experience), but you should be aware of the problem.

The Need for Wii Points Card, 18 May 2009

The Wii Points card makes sense in the following cases

    1. If you need to qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping adding this might do it and well you get 2000 points to buy the games you like

    2. If you are in a country other than US and find it difficult to use your credit card on the Wii Shop channel. You could ship this to some friends, relatives in US and ask them to read out the code for you.

    3. If you are sensitive about using your credit card on the Wii shopping channel

    4. If you get it for less than 20$ as it happens sometimes

    5. As a gift to someone

When it doesn't make sense is when it is above 20$ as you could get it for 1$ = 100 points right at the Wii shopping channel itself

It's Like Buying a $20 Scratch Ticket and Winning $20 Every Time!, 18 May 2009

The Wii points card is painfully simple: input the code on the back of the card into your console and 2000 points are automatically inserted into your account.

This is a great way of not adding a credit card number to a Wii (Where your children might find it and use it without permission!) and it is the same price (if not a few cents less) than using the credit card directly as well.

These make a great gift as well...I have bought several and everyone loves them.

Points... No tax!!, 14 May 2009

These points are the same as the ones you will get on the Wii shop channel. I have never had a problem with the number code and I have not been able to scratch off the code just using my finger or a coin. Usually amazon sells them for the same price as the shop channel, but at amazon there is no tax. Depending on where you live it can save you about $1.20.

You pay $20 and only $20 for this, 3 Mar 2009

You get what you pay for, 2000 points worth 20 dollars to spend on games and wii ware on Nintendo Shopping channel, its better than buying it from your Wii since they charge you taxes over there, if you buy this alone here on amazon you would end up paying shipping but I bought it with the Classic Controller so shipping was free. good buy if you don't mind waiting for it to arrive by mail and you don't pay taxes!

it is what it is..., 1 Mar 2009

It is what it is. A $20 value for $20. I by it because:

    1. It's a way to boost an order up to qualify for Saver Shipping

    2. I don't have to pay sales tax this way (like I would if I bought it at a local store)

    3. I don't have to enter my credit card info into my wii (the option if I didn't use a points card like this)

So yep. That's about all. If you don't get what you expect, you didn't check very hard into what it was.

Waste of Money!!!, 26 Feb 2009

The description says Nintendo Wii system required. Nowhere does it say that the internet is required as well!!! So imagine my suprise when I opened the package, went to the Wii Shop Channel and was told that I need to connect to the Internet to use this card. And I purchased 2 cards!!! I'm sure the cards are great but full details should be mentioned when selling items, especially when something like Internet is required!
